Product Description

Two-stage Pusher Centrifuge is a kind of perforated basket centrifuge, which works both continuously and effectively. The mixture to be separated is fed through the feed pipe to the distributor continuously and evenly distributed to the wall of first stage basket. Most of the mother-liquor which is filtered by centrifugal force from the feed departs through the sieves into the liquor-collecting casing where it will be discharged out of the machine.

Process & Application

Pusher centrifuge utilize continuous filtration for the separation of suspended, fast draining, crystalline, granular or fibrous solids from the liquid phase. The solids can be washed as they are transported through the basket. Pusher centrifuges are used in all fields for the separation of slurries with solids which filter easily.

Typical Products

  • Chemicals: Glaubers salt, salt, boric acid, ascorbic acid, adipic acid, sodium chloride, iron sulphate, sodium sulphate, copper sulphate, sodium bichromate.
  • Fertilisers: Ammonium sulphate, potash, urea, calcium nitrate, potassium sulphate.
  • Food stuff animal feeds: Extraction residues, meat pulp.
  • Benefication: Rock phosphate, gypsum, ores, coal.

Mode of Operation

1. Feeding

Slurries are fed via a feed pipe into the feed distributor which rotates at basket speed. Here the feed is accelerated and evenly distributed over the screen.

2. Filtration and Transport

The majority of the liquid is drained at the feed zone and discharged into the filtrate housing. The solids form a cake moved axially by the oscillating pusher plate. In two-stage baskets, a combination of an oscillating inner basket and a stationary pusher plate is used for movement.

3. Filtrate Removal & Washing

The filtrate housing can be subdivided by partitions for the separation of main filtrate and wash filtrate. The solids layer on the screen can be washed with nozzles or wash basket.

4. Discharge

The cake is discharged from the basket into the solids collecting housing or into a volute race at peripheral speed, allowing direct conveyance to the dryer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary function of a Two-stage Pusher Centrifuge?
It is a perforated basket centrifuge designed for continuous and effective separation of mixtures, utilizing centrifugal force to filter mother-liquor from solids.
Which materials are best suited for this equipment?
It is ideal for suspended, fast-draining, crystalline, granular, or fibrous solids. Common examples include salt, urea, ammonium sulphate, and rock phosphate.
How does the two-stage basket design improve the process?
The first stage basket rotates and reciprocates to push the filter cake into the second stage. This ensures the cake stays in the centrifuge long enough to achieve the required low moisture content.
Can the solid products be washed during the cycle?
Yes, effective washing can be performed using nozzles or a wash basket if high purity of the solid product is required. Washing liquid and mother-liquor can be discharged separately.
How are the filtered solids discharged?
The cake is discharged at peripheral speed into a solids collecting housing or a volute race, which can then convey the material directly to a dryer.
What are the design advantages of this centrifuge?
The design features a complete separation of the mechanical unit from the process area and offers options for both long and short baskets to suit different industrial needs.
